What is BIM?
|
Building Information Modelling is a new way of designing and thinking for the construction industry
which moves from the traditional 2D approach to the more natural 3D Modelled approach. Building Information Management is also incorporated into BIM and takes the intelligent 3D model capturing its properties allowing it to be used to manage build progress and building maintenance etc. This highly efficient methodology saves time and paperwork in a wide variety of disciplines. An electronic 3D model can hold a wealth more information than a 2D plan plus it can be shared between numerous people and manipulated on the fly. Because of the way 3D models hold the building data and are used by a multitude of people, each for their own purpose, money can be saved at every corner thoughout the build progress and the buildings life cycle. ArtrA is a Building Information Management solution that enables a virtual information model to be handed from a Design Team (Architects, surveyors, consulting engineers and others), to Contractors and Subcontractors and then to the Owner. All parties can now add their own discipline-specific knowledge and tracking of the changes to the single 3D Model. BIM IS THE INFORMATION HIGHWAY OF CONSTRUCTION USING THE MODEL AS IT'S KERNEL BIM is a process that begins with the initial designs and continues indefinitely for the building life cycle. Right from the design stage it can be used to spot costly design errors and even calculate the amount of materials needed for the construction Once there is a model of a building you can extract detailed plans of specific subsystems, such as water, HVAC and electrical. Because of this BIM can be used after construction to great effect, saving time and money with maintenance procedures and schedules ArtrA provides BIM solutions in the following areas:
|
Viewing in depth item specific information
Comprehensive material take offs using ArtrA, calculating costs of construction
Isolating the rain water drainage subsystem within ArtrA |
